Days 11 and 12: Berlin

After our last day in Amsterdam it was time to head to Berlin, so we woke up early in the morning and caught a DB (Deutsche Bahn) train to Berlin. Here we are staying at a family friends place, so we made our way to Jessica and Heiko's house. We were welcomed warmly and we found out that another friend of the family, Dante is also staying here, so I (Lukas) am sharing a room with him. After getting settled we went to a nearby lake for a swim after which we went back to the house for dinner before going to bed, for we were all very tired. The next day, Heiko took us to see the Berlin Wall and the Brandenburg Tor. After that, he had to leave, so we went off on our own and looked at the Holocaust Memorial, all of which was incredibly insightful and intense. We were all very hungry at this point, so we went to a local market nicknamed "Little Istanbul" and had some amazing street food for lunch, before traveling to Alexander Platz and going on top of the Fernsehturm (TV Tower). While we were up there, we noticed a giant hot air balloon that kept on going up and down so we decided to find it and go on it. It was amazing because you could really see all of Berlin as if you were floating in the middle of it. Then we found out that one of Matilda's dad's college roomate's son was going to school in Berlin so we met up with him for dinner and he gave us a ton of cool places to check out while we were in Berlin. Then we headed home and went to bed.

Day 10: Amsterdam

Today we took the time to get a bit extra rest before heading into town to explore the Van Gogh Museum and after the Anne Frank House. In between we had some sandwiches at a cafe, and later we had burgers at a burger bar for dinner. Now we are heading back to pack up for our next destination, Berlin!

Pictures for this and more from Amsterdam will be posted in an additional post soon!

Days 8 and 9: Amsterdam

On Day 8 we travelled to Amsterdam by train. There was nothing too interesting that happened. But once we got to the hostel and got to our room we were amazed. It was so nice that I would consider it a hotel room with 4 people to each room. We have a roomate whose name is Alex. He is from Australia. Well we went out and got some amazing falafels for dinner and then headed back to our hostel. We decided it was too early to hit the sack when we got back, so we went to a restaurant/bar near the hostel and hung out there for a bit before going to bed. We woke up the next morning and went into town (Central Amsterdam), renting out some bikes, and biking all around Amsterdam. We found a market which had a lot of cool things and had some amazing crepes for lunch. Then we came across the infamous Red Light District with many interesting stores and theatres. Still being tired from the day before, we headed back to the hostel for a bit until going out to have some amazing indonesian food for dinner, and went on a canal cruise. Then we stayed out a bit longer before going back and falling asleep.
